I walk to work every day to keep us afloat. You, too, will one day walk to work every day. This is how the world spins.
We must work for the future. They, whom tread our sweet and dangerous soil, are the only sliver of promise left.
The first job I had that I got directly paid for was as a soldier in the US Army. Before that, I lived in an orphans' home in Tennessee for six years. It was out in the country, and we all worked to support each other. Mainly, the boys worked in the fields and the dairy barn, the girls worked in the kitchen and the laundry. We raised crops; milked a herd of dairy cattle and sold the milk; slaughtered and butchered hogs, cattle and chickens; and canned fruit and vegetables that we could not eat fresh for use over the winter.
